Mata Janaki (Sita) was born in Sitamarhi, Bihar. Since she appeared from Mother Earth (Bhumi), she is also known as Bhumi Putri. Sitamarhi is considered her sacred birthplace.
Mata Sita was the daughter of King Janak, ruler of Mithila. Today this region includes Madhubani, Darbhanga, and Sitamarhi. The rich Mithila culture, Madhubani paintings, and Maithili language are deeply connected with Sita Mata.
The famous Sita Swayamvar took place here. Lord Ram broke Lord Shiva’s bow (Pinaka) to marry Sita. The ceremony is believed to have occurred in Janakpur, part of ancient Mithila.
Lord Ram freed Ahilya from her curse in Buxar. The sacred Ahilya Temple in Buxar commemorates this divine event.
